Martin Freeman’s Captain America Role Revealed?

It’s no secret that Martin Freeman will appear in ‘Captain America: Civil War’… but could we have our first hint at exactly who he’ll be playing?

According to the Latino Review, the 43-year-old British actor will be playing a rather prestigious role – none other than the British Prime Minister.

“The hot rumor that we’ve been hearing (this is unconfirmed because NO ONE wants to confirm this at the moment) is that Martin Freeman is playing a character named Edward Chase, the Prime Minister of England in the MCU.”

“Whatever mission goes south for Captain America’s Avengers at the beginning of the movie will involve a number of British soldiers,” they reveal, “Chase will be responsible for upping the pressure on the government side… Chase will be arguing for a better world-wide plan to keep The Avengers in check.”

Of course, as the film progresses, there’s likely to be plenty of opposition when it comes to The Avengers – most obviously, from Tony Stark himself.

But it seems the Prime Minister might play a more villainous role…

“This new information seems to put Martin Freeman squarely in the villain category for the third Captain America,” they claim… and explain that he might even have been mentioned in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ when Ulysses Klaw is seen talking to the ‘minister’ on the phone.

“Right before Ultron interrupts Klaw (Andy Serkis), Klaw threatens to send some missiles up someones ass, then says: ‘Now, Minister, where were we?’ Turns out that Freeman’s Chase might have been on the other end of that phone call.”

And the reason he’d be talking to Klaw? Well, apparently, Prime Minister Chase is desperately attempting to amass a Vibranium stockpile that the ‘English’ can use to combat the increasing super-powered global threat.

But will any of this pan out on the big screen?

For now, it’s probably a good idea to take this rumour with a pinch of salt. But let’s face it – it’s a huge departure from Freeman’s other roles as a Hobbit and Sherlock’s Watson… and that might be the very reason he’d jump on board.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Captain America: Civil War’ heads to cinemas on 29 April 2016.
