Marvel President Gives Black Panther, Captain Marvel & Thor 3 Updates

In a few short weeks ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ will be released and Marvel will be popping champagne as a no doubt huge box office haul starts rolling in.

As ever with them however, the work never truly stops, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed that the real work on Phase Three will be starting shortly after the 'Avengers’ press tour winds down.

'Captain America: Civil War’ will soon start shooting, 'Doctor Strange’ will soon start casting and, speaking to Slash Film, Feige give brief updates on the company’s other major Phase Three releases.

'Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ is currently being written by James Gunn for release in early 2017. That will be followed by the new 'Spider-Man’ - which Drew Goddard is front-runner to write and direct.

The Spidey announcement in February pushed 'Thor: Ragnarok’ back to a November 2017 release. Regarding the film Feige says it is “being scripted right now and I think we will get a draft soon.

'Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1’ follows in early 2018. This will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo and written by Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost (as will part two in 2019).

Following part one will be 'Black Panther’ starring Chadwick Boseman. "I have some director meetings set in the next few weeks once 'Avengers’ gets out the door,” says Feige.

“Casting is already underway in many ways. Some of which you know about, some of which you don’t,” he added, perhaps referring to rumours that Ghostbuster Ernie Hudson is in line to play the title character’s father.

'Captain Marvel’ follows in late 2018. “We’re ready to announce writers hopefully in the next week or two,“ says Feige, which is surprising given the film is so far away. Perhaps they’ve signed a big name?

Then, after 'Infinity War - Part 2’, comes 'Inhumans’ - which will bring Phase Three to a close. In regard to this Feige would only say the film is "way down the line”.

The current Phase 3 line-up looks like so…

'Captain America: Civil War’ - 6 May, 2016
'Doctor Strange’ - 4 November, 2016
'Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ - 5 May, 2017
'Spider-Man’ - 28 July, 2017
'Thor: Ragnarok’ - 3 November, 2017
'Avengers: Infinity War - Part 1’ - 4 May, 2018
'Black Panther’ - 6 July, 2018
'Captain Marvel’ - 2 November, 2018
