Marvel TV: Daredevil Season 2 News, Iron Fist Major Character Rumour

Now that ‘Daredevil’ looks to have done for Marvel on the small screen what ‘Iron Man’ did for the movies (all apologies to ‘Agents of SHIELD’), anticipation for the comic label-turned-entertainment empire’s upcoming Netflix shows is growing ever more intense.

‘Daredevil’ himself Charlie Cox has spilled a few beans on when we can expect the Man Without Fear’s second season - along with his own informal speculations as to which other characters might join the action.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that a certain future Marvel big screen hero may wind up debuting in the upcoming Netflix series ‘Iron Fist.’

Speaking to Empire, actor Cox says he expects ‘Daredevil’ season 2 to “begin shooting in the second half of the year. It’ll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year.”

While Cox admitted he didn’t know for sure, he gave his thoughts on how the chronology of the shows will most likely go - and he expects ‘Daredevil’s second season to arrive before the big crossover series ‘The Defenders.’

“[Marvel will] probably do ‘Iron Fist’ or ‘Luke Cage’ at the same time, followed by other other one [’Daredevil’ season two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe ‘Defenders’ in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.”

As for which other characters he expects, or at least hopes to see in ‘Daredevil’ season two, Cox spoke with the blend of enthusiasm and caution we’ve come to expect from Marvel actors, admitting, “I have to be careful because we just got commissioned so I have no idea who is going to turn up.

“Based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did.“

Punisher would indeed seem a likely candidate to join this new shadowy corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given how surprisingly brutal ‘Daredevil’ gets, the gun-crazy anti-hero - last seen in 2008′s ‘Punisher: War Zone,’ played by Ray Stevenson (subsequently Volstagg in the ‘Thor’ movies) - would fit right in.

Elektra, meanwhile, was briefly alluded to in ‘Daredevil’ season one, when Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) ribs Cox’s Matt Murdock about “that Greek girl” he was involved with at college. Given she and the deadly assassin Bullseye - portrayed by Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell in the 2003 movie, with Garner reprising her role in the 2005 ‘Elektra’ solo movie - are probably the best known ‘Daredevil’ supporting characters, it seems feasible they’d join the action too.

However, while Black Widow features prominently alongside Daredevil in the comics - no one tell Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner, but the two were romantically involved - she would seem rather less likely to make a small screen appearance, unless there’s a lot of wiggle room in Scarlett Johannson’s contract with Marvel.

That said, Bleeding Cool have reported that ‘Iron Fist’ may see the first appearance of a major Marvel movie hero in waiting - ‘Doctor Strange,’ set to make his big screen debut played by Benedict Cumberbatch in November 2016.

BC speculate that Cumberbatch himself may not actually appear directly, but may instead “be shown in a way that doesn’t need such a high profile actor to be on set… but odds are that the Cumberbatch will at least do the voice.”

This too would make some sense, given that both Doctor Strange and Iron Fist are rooted in a type of Eastern mysticism which to date has not been seen in the MCU - but which, again, was alluded to in ‘Daredevil’ season one.

Catch ‘Daredevil’ season one on Netflix now. Marvel’s second Netflix series, ‘AKA Jessica Jones,’ is currently in production and is expected to be released later in 2015.
