Marvel's Black Panther Might Appear Twice Before 2017 Solo Movie

Future Marvel movie superhero Chadwick Boseman has revealed that he may appear as Black Panther in more than just ‘Captain America: Civil War’ before his debut solo movie in 2017.

Speaking to Variety for their Actors on Actors series, the age-defying 38-year-old said: “There’s a director on the movies that I’m introduced, but not for ‘Black Panther’.

“Just being a part of that discussion is huge. You’re reading the comic books and you have ideas about how that’s gonna happen and you can discuss that.”

The operative word is of course “movies” but which movies could they be? Between Black Panther’s debut in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and his solo movie, there are three other Marvel pictures: ‘Doctor Strange’, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ and ‘Thor: Ragnorak’.

There is another possibility too. The director he has been speaking to could be Joss Whedon. It’s plausible that Marvel may be trying to work a Black Panther (or costume-free alter-ego T’Challa) into Whedon’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ next year.

That may be the simplest answer looking at the other possibilities. An appearance in ‘Guardians 2’ seems very unlikely, and it wouldn’t make much sense for Marvel to take some of the spotlight away from Dr Steven Strange in his first feature.

Of the other three films then, it’s ‘Thor: Ragnorak’ that seems likeliest, but even then it’s a stretch.

Moving away from speculation though, Boseman also spoke about his excitement about taking the part.

“[I’m] beyond excited, it’s like to the point where you feel numb and then your mind goes off into, ‘Ok, how do I achieve that?’ The great thing about it is that the actual character is unique in a lot of ways.

“I can’t think of another character that’s like the leader of a nation and is a superhero at the same time. There are a lot of different ways this story can go, ways that they can do it, so I’m really just excited about how it fits into the bigger picture of what Marvel is doing.”

Boseman will be an incredibly busy man over the next few years. He’ll film ‘Civil War’ (and possibly another Marvel appearance) next year before his own solo adventure in 2016. He’ll then likely feature in ‘Avengers: Infinity War – Parts 1 & 2’ which will likely be filmed back-to-back in 2017.

‘Black Panther’ is set for release on October 27, 2017.
