Megan Fox: Rebooted Ninja Turtles Are Now 'Fleshed Out Characters'

Megan Fox said the new brand new versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are more “fleshed out characters” than previous iterations.

Speaking to us from the set of ‘Turtles’ the actress, who plays yellow-suited reporter April O’Neill, said: “They are more realistic, in a sense that you’re still going to have a lot of comedy and light heartedness but they are more fleshed out characters. They’re turtles… but they’re people this time around as well.”

Minae Koji added that the decision to create the “heroes in a half shell” digitally this time around, rather than put actors in rubber suits, made them look “incredible”.

The actress, who plays Karai said: “I’ve watched all the [old] ‘Ninja Turtles’ movies. Initially I thought it was amazing they were wearing rubber suits, but they’re movement was limited. With all the special effects now, these turtles and splinter look incredible. The fight scenes are amazing, the stunts are incredible and with the CGI they look pretty hardcore.”

Will Arnett agrees that modern audiences demand much more realism now. “Audiences are much more savvy and you have to make something that’s much more real and believable and you feel connected to that aren’t goofy or over the top” he said. “There has to be a legitimacy. What would it be like if these turtles lived in this world that we live in? Its much grittier.”

William Fichnter said that the filmmaking team felt comfortable reinventing the source material – namely Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s iconic comics.

“This is brand new. I think you need to do that. It’s healthy to take liberties, to go ‘hey, this is the turtles today, it’s 2014, this is who they are’. And with technology today, especially with Michael Bay producing this project… I knew that right away were talking production value that will be soup to nuts lets put it that way!”
