Mel Gibson Wants To Direct Iron Man 4

Mel Gibson has revealed that he would jump at the chance of directing a fourth ‘Iron Man’ film with his friend Robert Downey Jr.

Asked by Extra TV as to whether he’d be interested the ‘Braveheart’ and ‘Lethal Weapon’ star said: "Of course! I’m pretty good at directing. I think I got some statues for it. I think I can do it.

"I think I’m a better director than actor. I hope somebody gives me an argument on that."

It was reported earlier this year that Robert Downey Jr had said he would only reprise his role as the superhero in ‘Iron Man 4’ if Gibson directed it, but he later dismissed the comments.

"It was an offhanded remark to a journalist and friend. I have other projects in mind for Mel and I," he said during a Reddit Ask Me Anything.

Given Gibson’s troubled recent history after a string of scandals, it’s only natural that he’d jump at such the opportunity to direct a blockbuster in a sure fire hit-making series.

But given those scandals, and the fact Disney payroll everything Marvel Studios-related, it’s hard to imagine they’d go near Gibson with the ten-foot barge poll.

Of course this is all moot anyway as ‘Iron Man 4’ isn’t even happening.

With Marvel’s recently-announced bumper slate of Phase Three films, Downey Jr already has his fill of roles - from next year’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ through to 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and probably at least one of the ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ films coming in 2018 and 2019.
