Meryl Streep Stars With Real-Life Daughter In Ricki And The Flash Trailer

The Streep acting dynasty is staking a claim in Hollywood, with Meryl Streep’s real-life daughter Mamie Gummer playing her estranged on-screen daughter in forthcoming comedy-drama ‘Ricki And The Flash’.

Streep plays Ricki Rendazzo, an ageing rocker who abandoned her family - including daughter Julie, played by Mamie – to pursue her dreams of being a rock star.

Returning home, she witnesses the wreckage she left behind, but gets the chance to try and repair their broken relationships.

Penned by the Oscar-winning writer of 'Juno’ Diablo Cody, Hollywood veteran Jonathan Demme is behind the camera.

Meanwhile, a sterling cast joins the Streep-Gummers, including Kevin Kline as Ricki’s ex-husband Pete, 'Captain America’ star Sebastian Stan as Ricki’s estranged son Joshua, and actual rock star Rick Springfield as Ricki’s fellow band-member in The Flash.

Streep made the effort of learning the guitar for the movie – slightly delaying the production – while Cody has said that the inspiration came from her own mother-in-law Terry, who has fronted a Jersey Shore rock band Silk and Steel for years.

“Terry is a grandmother of six and she’s still up there rocking out every weekend, walking on the bar, just electrifying the audience,” she said.

“Rock 'n’ roll is her life. I think there’ve been people in her life who’ve thought it was kind of a silly thing for a mom or grandmother to do and she doesn’t give a damn. I love that about her.”

It’s due out in the UK on August 7.
