Michael Biehn Will "Hopefully" Return In New Alien Movie

Sigourney Weaver and Neill Blomkamp have confirmed that they hope to bring back ‘Aliens’ actor Michael Biehn in their upcoming ‘Alien’ sequel.

Blomkamp’s ambitious, fan-pleasing plans for a new ‘Alien’ movie, first announced via concept art which the director himself released online in January, will see ‘Alien³’ and ‘Alien Resurrection’ side-stepped in favour of a narrative which, in some fashion, serves as a direct sequel to James Cameron’s beloved original sequel ‘Aliens.’

Given that Michael Biehn’s likeness as Corporal Hicks was featured alongside Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in this concept art, it was evident that Blomkamp hoped to bring him back (after the character was controversially killed off before the start of ‘Alien³’along with Carrie Henn’s Newt) - but now the director has confirmed this.

Quizzed on the matter by Digital Spy, Blomkamp says that “hopefully” both Weaver and Biehn would be back in his film, which he again described as a “part 3” after ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens,’ which he says are “both my favourite film.”

Weaver, shortly to be seen in Blomkamp’s latest sci-fi movie ‘Chappie,’ says the two of them were discussing his vision for a new ‘Alien’ movie “since I got on the set of ‘Chappie,’ almost immediately,” and says, “I can’t think of a better director to take this on; he loves these movies, he understands them, he knows what the fans want.”

Still, neither were too forthcoming on what we should expect from the film, although when asked if the film might balance the horror aspects of the original with the action elements of the sequel, Blomkamp confirmed this is along the lines of what he has in mind.

Michael Biehn, who had previously appeared as time-travelling freedom fighter Kyle Reese in James Cameron’s breakthrough movie ‘The Terminator,’ was a late replacement on ‘Aliens’ for James Remar, originally cast as Hicks but fired early on (Remar admitted last year this was due to his drug problems of the time).

Biehn subsequently worked with Cameron once more on ‘The Abyss,’ but subsequent roles in ‘Navy SEALS,’ ‘K2,’ ‘Tombstone’ and ‘The Rock’ failed to elevate him to major star status.

In recent years he has worked more extensively in independent film, producing a slew of low-budget films under Blanc/Biehn Productions with his wife Jennifer Blanc-Biehn, and turning director with 2011’s ‘The Victim.’

Neil Blomkamp’s ‘Chappie’ hits UK cinemas this Friday, 6 March 2015.
