Mike Colter Is Marvel’s Luke Cage

After casting Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, it looks as though Marvel has finally found its Luke Cage… and it’s none other than Mike Colter.

According to an official press release, Marvel has bagged 38-year-old Colter to play Luke Cage in the upcoming Netflix series ‘AKA Jessica Jones’.

“Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that Mike Colter will star as Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones’,” they reveal, “an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015.”

Mike Colter is perhaps best known as Agent Locke from the ‘Halo’ video game franchise… and will now take the role of Power Man in Marvel’s upcoming TV shows. And I can’t help thinking that Marvel has really nailed this one.

Born and raised in Harlem, the comic book version of Luke Cage gains the powers of superhuman strength and stamina… as well as resistance to injury and cellular regeneration. Of course, he soon goes on to associate with The Defenders – a superhero group which Netflix will also be bringing to the small screen.

“Fans have longed to see Luke Cage and in Mike we’ve found the perfect actor,” said the head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “Viewers will get to meet Luke Cage in ‘Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones,’ and experience why he is such an important super hero in the Marvel mythos.”

But this isn’t the first time he has been suggested for Luke Cage.

Of course, Colter was originally linked to the role when his good pal Terry Crews took to the social media site WhoSay to congratulate him on landing the role…

“Congratulations to my man, Mike Colter for being cast as LUKE CAGE!” he said. “A brilliant actor for one of my favourite superheroes ever! Love him!”

Perhaps a little premature there, Terry… but after Crews himself was rumoured to be eyed for the role, it looks as though Marvel has bagged the right man in the end.

“Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” said Executive Producer Melissa Rosenberg. “We’re excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”
