Miles Teller: Why I Chose Fantastic Four Over Spider-Man

Miles Teller has explained why he signed up to star in the upcoming reboot of ‘The Fantastic Four’, admitting that he was convinced because of the film’s ensemble nature.

Teller will play Reed Richards, otherwise known as Mr Fantastic, in Josh Trank’s new adaptation of the beloved comic book, while he will also be joined by Kate Mara’s Sue Storm, Michael B Jordan’s Johnny Storm and Jamie Bell’s Ben Grimm.

During his chat with Digital Spy, Teller, who has been receiving rave reviews for his mesmeric turn in the truly stunning ‘Whiplash’ ever since it hit Sundance last year, admitted that sharing the weight of the film appealed to him.

“If it was ‘Spider-Man’, that entire movie’s on my shoulders and that’s a more isolating experience,” he explained. “I don’t know if I would be into it, but the fact that it’s a move that I knew we’d share … the superhero world, that’s a whole different animal. That’s a pretty serious commitment.”

Teller’s honesty is mightily impressive to hear. Actors usually don’t like to admit that they are intimated by carrying an entire movie.

But it’s truly a daunting request to star in pretty much every scene of a hundred million dollar plus blockbuster while also leaving yourself open to be criticised if the film is a critical or financial failure.

And the way that the world works today means that you’re destined to disappoint a pretty hefty amount of people regardless of how impressive a performance you put in.

During his discussion Teller admitted that he also signed on to ‘The Fantastic Four’ because of Josh Trank’s impressive directorial debut with ‘Chronicle’, while the confirmation of the cast, all of whom he hugely respected before production began, helped to seal the deal.

‘The Fantastic Four’ will hit cinemas on August 6th, 2015, while ‘Whiplash’ is out on Friday and should be viewed by anyone with two eyes and a pulse.
