Miles Teller Talks Fantastic Four Powers

‘Fantastic Four’ actor Miles Teller discusses Mr Fantastic’s superpowers… and they might not be quite as cheesy as those earlier movies.

It’s no secret that Reed Richards – aka Mr Fantastic – hasn’t exactly fared well on the big screen. We’ve seen some rather cheesy CGI in the recent ‘Fantastic Four’ movies, as well as some extraordinary practical work in the oft-forgotten (and unreleased) 1994 movie.

But how will he look this time around? Miles Teller explains that it won’t be quite as bad…

During an interview with Empire Magazine, the 28-year-old Marvel superhero discusses how Mr Fantastic will be portrayed on screen in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ movie.

“It was good talking with our advisors on set, whether it’s the quantum physics stuff or biomechanics,” he said. “I always want to know enough about the stuff before I say it. But I’m on layman’s terms with the science. I’m a layman’s Reed Richards!”

Of course, Reed Richards is one of the Marvel universe’s most intelligent superheroes – mastering chemistry, biology, physics, engineering and a number of other disciplines… all of which led to the experiment that transformed himself and his friends.

But while Richards finds himself with the ability to stretch his body into any shape, it looks as though the Stretch Armstrong antics of the earlier films won’t be repeated this time around.

“If he’s this gummy guy slinging around, it looks ridiculous,” Teller explained… even though that’s exactly how Ioan Gruffudd looked in the 2005 version. “What does that feel like for a young guy, to have no control over his body?”

Obviously, the Josh Trank ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot is aiming for a more realistic depiction of how the world’s first superhero group would deal with their unexpected transformation. And with such incredible powers thrust upon them out of nowhere, it seems as though they’ll have some trouble keeping themselves under control.

We’ve already seen how their new costumes reflect this – with the Human Torch being given an outfit which vents heat away from him.

But how will Mr Fantastic’s powers look on the big screen? For now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Fantastic Four’ heads to cinemas on 6 August 2015.
