Miranda Hart: I’d Like To Play A Superhero (Exclusive)

UK comic Miranda Hart makes her big Hollywood debut this week starring alongside Melissa McCarthy, Jude Law, Jason Statham and Rose Byrne in Paul Feig’s hilarious ‘Spy’, and she’s already got her sights set on her next big movie role: playing a superhero.

“If you’re talking franchises,” the star of BBC sitcom ‘Miranda’ replied when we asked what she’d like to work on next, “There should be some sort of superhero that I could play.”

“Big Bird springs to mind,” she quips, before quickly adding, “Cheap, obvious gag.”

Of course, she’s just kidding, and she admits she’s as surprised as anyone to be starring in a huge Hollywood blockbuster, telling us “I don’t feel in any way a big movie star, and I’ve no idea if anyone will employ me again.”

Feig, the filmmaker responsible for ‘Bridesmaids’ and ‘The Heat’, says he’s been a fan of Hart’s “for years” and was excited to bring her to the big screen as Melissa McCarthy’s sidekick Nancy. The pair play CIA analysts drawn into international espionage when Jude Law’s suave spy goes missing.

Next up for Feig is the all-female ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot, so we had to ask Miranda whether she’d asked for a role in the upcoming horror comedy.

“No, I haven’t been quite that cheap. But I am going to lock him in a room and insist he writes ‘Spy 2′ the movie, so that I can get another acting part.

“What I might do, instead of asking him, I might fly to Boston where they’re filming ‘Ghostbusters’ and just hover back in the set as a ghostly presence and offer up my services.”

‘Spy’ is in cinemas on 5 July.
