Mission: Impossible 5 Is Bumped Forward Five Months

It appears that filming for ‘Mission: Impossible 5' is going pretty well, because in an rare move, the film is having its release date brought forward by five whole months.

Director Christopher McQuarrie – writer of ‘The Usual Suspects’ and director of ‘Jack Reacher’ – has clearly been rigorously adhering to his production schedule, because instead of December 25, it will now land on July 31.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Paramount has decided to distance the movie from the release of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, due on December 18 (‘Star Wars’ director J.J. Abrams is also an executive producer on M:I5).

It will also avoid any thematic clash with the new Bond film, ‘Spectre’, due on November 6.

Despite the radical adjustment, the movie is still actually shooting, with Tom Cruise and Simon Pegg spotted on location around the canals of London’s east end this week.

Meanwhile, last month Cruise was filming at Piccadilly Circus tube station in central London, where he had a near miss with a bus.

It’s also been shooting in Austria, Monaco and Morocco, along with those breathtaking stunt shots of Cruise strapped to the outside of a plane at 5000ft over Cambridgeshire in September.

This latest movie in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ series features a customarily sturdy cast.

Joining Cruise and sidekick Pegg, who’s reprising his role as Benji Dunn, are Alec Baldwin, Ving Rhames, British stage legend Simon McBurney, Sean Harris, Jeremy Renner and Rebecca Ferguson.

As yet, there are no details of plot, but it will now go up against boxing drama ‘Southpaw’, which has seen Jake Gyllenhaal bulk up for the part, Ryan Reynolds sci-fi thriller ‘Selfless’, and the remake of ‘Point Break’ on its opening weekend.

The fifth movie in the series has some box office action to live up to.

'Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocal', the previous movie, scored a franchise best, hauling in nearly $700 million (£464 million).
