Netflix has acquired the international rights to Vanessa Kirby's award-winning new movie Pieces of a Woman.

Co-starring Shia LaBeouf (The Peanut Butter Falcon), Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream), Sarah Snook (Succession) and Molly Parker (Deadwood), the story follows Kirby's grieving mother Martha Carson, who embarks on a year-long period of mourning.

Pieces of a Woman marks the English-language debut of Hungarian filmmaker Kornél Mundruczó, who said of the film's Netflix deal: "As a European filmmaker, I couldn't be more excited and appreciative of finding my home for this film with Netflix.

Kirby's performance won her the Venice Film Festival's prestigious Volpi Cup for Best Actress last week – previous winners include Tilda Swinton, Emma Stone, Dame Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchett and Olivia Colman.

Martin Scorsese serves as an executive producer on the film, and added: "It's lucky to see a movie that takes you by surprise. It's a privilege to help it find the wide audience it deserves."
