Morena Baccarin Joins Cast of Deadpool

After being hotly tipped for the female lead in ‘Deadpool,’ Morena Baccarin has officially been cast in the upcoming 20th Century Fox Marvel movie.

The Hollywood Reporter announced the actress’s casting in the role, said to be a “love interest” for Ryan Reynolds’ title character. She joins TJ Miller and the recently announced Gina Carano in the directorial debut of Tim Miller.

This would look set to be Baccarin’s highest profile role yet on the big screen. Her biggest film role to date would arguably be Joss Whedon’s 2005 film ‘Serenity’ - and that was a reprise of her role from the short-lived but much-loved TV series ‘Firefly.’

The bulk of Baccarin’s work to date has been on the small screen, having followed up ‘Firefly’ with recurring roles on ‘Stargate SG-1,’ ‘V,’ ‘Homeland’ and most recently ‘Gotham.’

The name of her ‘Deadpool’ role has not been revealed, but apparently her character “grapples with falling for a man with a hideously scarred face.” Perhaps, like fans of the comic, she’ll be hoping Wade Wilson spends most if not all of his time behind that iconic mask, which was conspicuous by its absence when Reynolds first took the role in ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’

Scheduled to start production in March, ‘Deadpool’ will hit cinemas on 12 February 2016.
