In the 1992 movie, Aladdin uses his last wish to free the Genie from the lamp.

It was originally a role that Williams was reticent to take.

Ron Clements and John Musker, who directed and wrote the movie, penned the part with Robin Williams in mind.

After meeting resistance from the actor, the pair fused the audio of some of his stand-up material with animated footage of the would-be Genie.

Williams was said to have ‘laughed his ass off’ at the footage, and consequently agreed to take the role.

He won a Golden Globe for Special Achievement, thanks to the part, and an Oscar nomination for the song ‘Friend Like Me’.

Williams was found dead at his home yesterday. He was 63.
