Fifty Shades Of Grey Includes ‘Graphic Nudity’, 'Unusual Behaviour' - But Doesn't Get Adults-Only Rating

Sadly, there’s no ‘mild peril’ in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, but it appears that there’s all sorts of other stuff to be warned about.

The Motion Picture Association of America, the US movie industry’s governing body, has now passed its judgement on the erotic adaptation.

Interestingly, the movie has been given an R rating rather than the adults-only NC-17, which suggests the action on screen may be more muted than hoped, with under 17s allowed into cinemas if accompanied by an adult.

It describes the action thusly:

“Strong sexual content, including dialogue, some unusual behaviour and graphic nudity, and for language.”

We can perhaps presume that the bondage-type business, as detailed in eye-watering lucidity in E.L. James’ best-seller, constitutes the aforementioned ‘unusual behaviour’.

In recent remarks from star Jamie Dornan, who plays the billionaire sex enthusiast Christian Grey, the Irish actor took some exception to the reputation that S&M has.

He told GQ magazine: “There’s weirder s**t than that. I think plane spotting is far weirder than S&M,” he said.

“That I really don’t get. I can understand why people are into S&M, but standing outside Heathrow Terminal 5 waiting for Ryanair to come in?”

He then added: “I’m an extremely liberal person, I don’t give a f**k. If people are into that they’re into that.

“By the way, if people make such a hoo-hah about the violence against women aspect of it, it’s far more common for men to be the submissive. And it’s consensual!

“In the course of researching this character, I have seen the reality very closely. I can tell you from an alarmingly first-hand perspective it’s not altogether sexy.

“But I’ve been in a dungeon with a lukewarm beer while a dominant has had some fun with his submissive and it was very playful and jovial and not at all dark and serious. There was a lot of laughter.”

Hopefully there won’t be too much of the latter when the film, which also stars Dakota Johnson, hits screens in the UK on February 13.
