Native Americans Walk Out Of Adam Sandler's 'Racist' Ridiculous Six

About a dozen Native American actors have walked off the set of Adam Sandler’s new western comedy in a row over ‘racist’ jokes.

The group quit the spoof movie, being filmed in New Mexico and which lampoons 'The Magnificent Seven’, over what they deemed its offensive depiction of Apache culture.

Character names of the Native American characters are said to include Beaver’s Breath and No Bra, while a scene in which a female character urinates while smoking a peace pipe was also deemed offensive.

One actor, Loren Anthony, told the Indian Country Today Media Network that they were told by producers the film would be humorous, but not racist.

“So I agreed to it, but on Monday things started getting weird on the set,” said Anthony.

“One thing that really offended a lot of people was that there was a female character called Beaver’s Breath. One character says: ‘Hey, Beaver’s Breath.’ And the Native woman says: ‘How did you know my name?’

“We were supposed to be Apache, but it was really stereotypical and we did not look Apache at all. We looked more like Comanche.”

When concerns were raised, another actor Allison Young, a Navajo, said that they were ignored.

“They just told us: ‘If you guys are so sensitive, you should leave’,” said Young, who admitted that she was brought to tears over the incident.

“This is supposed to be a comedy that makes you laugh. A film like this should not make someone feel this way. Nothing has changed. We are still just Hollywood Indians.”

Netflix, who is making the movie with Sandler, defended the production.

“The movie has ridiculous in the title for a reason: because it is ridiculous,” said a spokesperson for the streaming service.

“It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of - but in on - the joke.”

According to reports, the walk-out has not delayed filming.

Due out later this year, it also stars Nick Nolte, Terry Crews, Taylor Lautner, Steve Buscemi, Will Forte, Luke Wilson and Whitney Cummings.
