New Avengers Trailer: Who Is The Mystery Woman?

Marvel’s new ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ trailer has given us yet another mystery woman to identify, as Joss Whedon continues to tease his superhero sequel.

The film’s first trailer had us all wondering who the third woman at the Avengers Tower party was - with the world eventually sussing out it was Korean actress Claudia Kim - and now its the time of the mysterious woman below, seen disrobing by a pool.

Who is she? The internet has three theories, each of them exciting for comic book fans.

Shuri

Shuri is the younger sister of T’Challa, the man also known as Black Panther. As we know, Black Panther is getting his own film in 2017 - and will make his debut in 2016’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’, but might ‘Age of Ultron’ do a lot to set up the character’s world and mythos?

It has been speculated for some time that Andy Serkis will play Panther villain Ulysses Claw, and the new shot of him in this trailer only makes that more likely (notice the claw pendant he’s wearing around his neck). Could the film also feature Wakanda, the ficitional African country that T’Challa rules?

The Dora Milaje

The Dora Milaje are the personal bodyguards of Black Panther, recruited from the many tribes of Wakanda. Technically bodyguards, they’re more likely sidekicks, who assist Black Panther where possible. They also act as possible suitors for the role of Queen of Wakanda, should T’Challa be in the mood for chancing a wife.

There are a few named members of the Dora Milaje, including their leader Aneka, but there aren’t many defining dress features that would allow one character to stand out as a candidate.

Death

"To challenge them is to court Death," said The Other in the credits sequence of ‘Avengers Assemble’. He said to Thanos, setting up the Infinity Gauntlet storyline that will be the focus of the next Avengers films, ‘Avengers: Infinity War Parts 1 & 2’.

The reason Death is capitalised in that sentence is because in the Marvel universe the concept of death is physically emobided as a character: a woman whom Thanos aims to woo with his mastery of the Infinity Gauntlet and therefore all of reality.

If it is Death, then the chances are that pool (the same pool we saw Thor spring from in trailer one?) may not be on Earth. If so, that raises even more questions.

Unlike the first mystery woman, this doesn’t seem to be a mystery that will be solved any time soon.

'Avengers: Age of Ultron' is set for released on 24 April.
