The first of the new ‘Carry On’ movies will find the matron character originally played by Hattie Jacques played by a 'butch gay man’, according to reports.

Jonathan Sothcott, who is producing the new films, rebooting the classic movie series, also added that 'Carry On Doctors’, the first new Carry On movie in 25 years, is planning to skewer the crisis within the NHS.

“The NHS is the best thing in the world. But it’s also something that we British love to grumble about – we will be addressing the crisis,” he told the Daily Mirror.

“The Carry On films have always had this great relationship with the NHS, because they spoof it – but they are also actually very protective of it.

“It’s important the film reflects what is going on.

“Also, everyone in Britain still gets embarrassed to go to the doctor and pee into a test tube. That’s a very British thing.”

The second film will be called 'Carry On Campus’, he added, but confirmed that 'EastEnders’ star Barbara Windsor would not be coming back, saying that the actress had 'spent the best part of 20 years trying to reinvent herself. She has moved on with her life’.

The new movies will be penned by Tim Dawson and Susan Nickson, the writers behind BBC sitcom 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’.

The last time that the Carry On movies got a reboot was ‘Carry On Columbus’ in 1992. It was hammered by critics.
