Terrifying Crimson Peak Trailer Stars An Amourous Tom Hiddleston

Three months on from the first trailer, and still five months ahead of its cinema release, here’s our latest look at Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Crimson Peak’ - and it certainly looks to be a treat for the senses.

This second trailer boasts further peeks (pun absolutely intended) into the strange and intriguing new world the ‘Pan’s Labyrinth,’ ‘Hellboy’ and ‘Pacific Rim’ director has dreamed up. As ever with del Toro, the set design is eye-catching, and the use of colour - in particular red - is especially striking.

However, we suspect a great many viewers will be particularly struck with the brief glimpse of enigmatic romantic lead Tom Hiddleston in the throes of passion with leading lady Mia Wasikowska…

Wasikowska (’Alice in Wonderland’) takes the lead as Edith, a young novelist who is caught up in a whirlwind romance with Hiddleston’s Sir Thomas Sharpe. Soon they are married, and Edith moves into the Sharpe family home of Crimson Peak - along with Sir Thomas’ sister, Lady Lucille (’Zero Dark Thirty’ actress Jessica Chastain).

But of course, things are not quite what they seem; for not only would Crimson Peak appear to have a few more residents than those three mortals, but also it would seem that Sir Thomas and Lady Lucille have some sinister motive for bringing Edith into their home…

As to just what is going on - or, perhaps we should ask, what has gone on - in Crimson Peak; well, your guess is as good as ours at this point. but based on all that red, it’s fair to say things may be getting a bit bloody. Indeed, the film has already recieved an R-rating in the US for “strong bloody violence, some sexual content and brief strong language.”

Given how comparatively predictable the trailers for other upcoming ghost movies ‘Insidious Chapter 3′ and ‘Sinister 2′ have been, it really is refreshing to see a trailer for a new ghost movie that looks genuinely different, and genuinely horrific - even within the confines of a green-band trailer.

We'll see the full extent of the horror when Universal release 'Crimson Peak’ to cinemas on 16 October.
