New Dracula Untold Trailer Mixes History With Rock Music

A stirring new trailer for ‘Dracula Untold’ has arrived touting a history lesson and pounding rock soundtrack.

The trailer, which features Luke Evans as the eponymous anti-hero, can be watched in full above.

Featuring a haunting reimagining of Tears For Fears’ 1985 hit ‘Everybody Wants To Rule The World’, the trailer fleshes out the plot which sees Dracula turning to the dark side in order to save his son, and his empire.

For those not familiar with 15th century central European history, the fictional character of Dracula is said to be inspired by the real-life Vlad III, the Prince of Wallachia, a revered Romanian folk hero. Vlad battled with the Ottoman Empire in order to keep Wallachia (a region of Romania) free from rule, killing somewhere in the region of 20,000 Turks in one infamous battle.

He got the nickname Vlad The Impaler from his preferred form of law and punishment which saw bodies impaled on stakes driven into the ground. Bram Stoker based his famous vampire on the historical figure whose inherited family name was Dracula, and as legend has it, had a taste for blood.

It’s not clear how close ‘Dracula Untold’ will stick to the rather grisly historical facts of the story, but with Dominic Cooper playing a Turkish leader, we can expect it to be at least loosely inspired by the Vlad legend.

Give or take a giant ethereal fist made of bats.

‘Dracula Untold’ is coming to UK cinemas on 3 October.
