New Image of John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson In Stephen King's Cell

A new image has been released from the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘Cell’ - along with reports that the film will be released theatrically later this year.

Directed by Tod Williams (‘Paranormal Activity 2’), this big screen take on King’s 2006 novel stars John Cusack, Samuel L Jackson and Isabelle Fuhrman as survivors of a zombie outbreak which explodes through a mysterious signal simultaneously sent to every mobile phone, seemingly worldwide.

Anxious to find his wife and son, Cusack and his fellow survivors set off through New England (it is Stephen King, after all) in a desperate fight to stay alive.

Readers may recall that Cusack and Jackson have worked together on a Stephen King movie before, in 2007’s ‘1408’ (see the trailer below).

Published at the height of the mid-2000s zombie boom in the aftermath of ‘28 Days Later’ (yes, we know, not technically a zombie movie) and the ‘Dawn of the Dead’ remake, King’s ‘Cell’ was touted for a movie adaptation almost as soon as it hit shelves, initially with Eli Roth attached to direct.

Obviously these initial plans didn’t pan out, and ultimately the film was produced independently produced by Benaroya Pictures and The Genre Company. Now, Arrow in the Head report that ‘Cell’ has been picked up for distribution in the US by Clarius Entertainment, and though no release date has yet been announced it is said the film should be released stateside later in 2015.

Louise Chater of Clarius calls the King adaptation “an exciting addition to our slate, with solid pedigree both in front of and behind the camera and a wild ride of a story for our cell phone-dependent culture. Our team is very much looking forward to working with these filmmakers and bringing the film into the US marketplace.”

No word yet on when we can expect to see ‘Cell’ in the UK.
