New LEGO Sets Offer Avengers: Age of Ultron Plot Clues

Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is coming to cinemas on 23 April, but still very little is known about the film’s plot. We know the superheroes will take on new supervillain Ultron, but outside of that, the story has been kept under a veil of secrecy.

Now, thanks to a series of new Avengers LEGO sets released today, the veil has been lifted slightly and we’ve got a better idea of how the story will play out on screen.

Each set represents a sequence in the film and comes complete with a short description of the action so that you can reenact it at home.

So, if you want to avoid spoilers about the film before the film’s released on 23 April, look away now.

The Hydra Fortress Smash

image

Description: Battle into the Hydra Fortress with the Avengers and free the Loki Scepter! Join forces with the Avengers on a daring mission to recover the Loki Scepter from the Hydra Fortress! Face down the dangerous Hydra tank with Hulk, dodging its rotating cannonball shooter. Jump onto the tank to activate the roof explode function and send its cannon flying. Smash through the gates but beware of Baron Von Strucker’s gun and shots from the tower’s double stud shooter. Send super-jumping Captain America flying through the air to disable this powerful rooftop weapon, and then free the scepter with a perfect jump!

What it means: Director Joss Whedon says ‘Age of Ultron’ opens with spectacular James Bond style pre-credits action sequence and we think this is probably what it’ll be. It’s not clear what happened to Loki’s scepter after the events of ‘The Avengers’, but thanks to the post-credit sting in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, we know it ended up in the hands of Hydra thug Baron Von Strucker.

He unwittingly created new characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch using the sceptre’s powers, and we think the Avengers are out to retrieve the powerful weapon before it does any more harm.

Note that there’s no mention of Ultron in this set, so this spectacular sounding sequence must occur at the start of the film before the creation of the team’s new robot foe.

Attack on Avengers Tower

image

Description: Reclaim the Loki Scepter and stop Ultron’s attack on Avengers Tower! The Heroes are having a party when suddenly Avengers Tower comes under Ultron attack from the inside! Evil Ultron Mark 1 has assembled himself in the lab and is exploding out the windows. Help Iron Man and Thor to defeat Ultron Mark one and the two Iron Legion accomplices under his control.

Make plans in the JARVIS control room and treat injured Super Heroes in the sick bay. An Iron Legion is blasting out the doors and windows of the ground-floor robot bay. The other has stolen the Loki Scepter from the analysis lab so pursue him with Thor and take aim from the roof of the tower with the secret hidden drone and stud shooters.

What it means: After the team retrieve Loki’s Scepter, a party is thrown at Avengers tower for the gang to kick back, relax and toast their recent success. But, as we’ve seen in the trailer, as the party begins the wind down, the team is interrupted by an early version of Ultron.

The LEGO set description reveals that Ultron has assembled himself and is trying to get away with the scepter, but where is he taking it and what are his plans? We don’t know, but it’s sure to lead to tensions within the team.

The Hulk Buster Smash

image

Description: Topple Scarlet Witch with super-jumping Iron Man and free the mighty Hulk! Hulk has been trapped by the powers of Scarlet Witch and she is ready to fire an electrical bolt if he tries to escape! Place Iron Man in the cockpit of the humungous Hulk Buster suit and rush to the rescue.

On the way you must fend off aerial attacks from the flying Ultron Prime. Adjust the Hulk Buster’s arms and legs to create fearsome battle poses and grab the villain with the powerful hands. With Ultron Prime safely in the mech’s grip, attach Iron Man to his Super Jumper. Then take out Scarlet Witch with an accurate jump and free the imprisoned Hulk!

image

What it means: One of the most intriguing moments of the film, showcased in all the trailers so far, is the Johannesburg-set battle between Hulk and Iron Man. Tony Stark is wearing a special Hulkbuster armour to fight his green-skinned pal and now, thanks to this awesome LEGO set, it seems we know why they’ve turned on each other.

The description suggests that Hulk is not acting of free will and it actually under the spell of Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. A shot in the trailer of Hulk with red eyes now makes a lot more sense. Ultron must be working with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in a bid to pits the Avengers against one another.

The Avengers Quinjet City Chase

image

Description: Launch a Quinjet pursuit of Ultron to set the Vision free! Launch a high-speed pursuit of Ultimate Ultron with the Avengers in the iconic Quinjet. Place Black Widow at the controls in the cockpit and soar into the sky. Fire the stud shooters and release  Captain America on his super-cool bike to take the pursuit to the streets. Iron Man MK43 is flying alongside the Quinjet using his thrusters, ready to take on Ultimate Ultron. When the time is right, make the perfect jump onto the truck to explode the sides and reveal the precious cargo. Includes five minifigures with assorted accessories: Vision, Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man and Ultimate Ultron.

What it means: One character that has still yet to be fully revealed is new Avenger Vision, as played by Paul Bettany. It’s presumed Tony Stark creates this new hero by upgrading his electronic butler JARVIS into a walking talking cape, but now we know at least one action sequence in which he’ll appear.

Judging from the trailers, this Quinjet sequence takes place during the South Korean portion of the film. It sounds like Vision is deployed to help the Avengers in the ongoing battle with Ultron, but what they’re fighting for… it’s still not clear.

‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is coming to UK cinemas on 23 April, but all of these LEGO sets are available from today. Watch a trailer below.
