New Marvel Spider-Man WILL Be Peter Parker

Since Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios announced a joint deal to reboot the Spider-Man series and bring the superhero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, speculation has incessantly claimed that the new Spidey might be Miles Morales and not Peter Parker.

With two film series to date starring Parker many believed Morales – a popular young character of Black Hispanic descent introduced to the comics in 2011 – may be in with a shout of being the new lead. However it seems that can finally be put to rest.

Asked on his Tumblr about the key to making the new Spider-Man series work, Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada told a fan: “The trick to making any incarnation of Spider-Man great, whether comics, animation or film is Peter Parker.

“Get Peter’s character right and the rest falls into place.”

Whether intended or not, Quesada’s comment confirms that Peter Parker will be Spider-Man in the new Marvel Cinematic Universe – and he would certainly know. With the character “coming home” to Marvel it was always probable that they’d go with Parker, despite the expectation being that this new film won’t re-tell his origin.

Further speculation has suggested that the film will start with a teenager Spider-Man who is already an active superhero in New York. Rumours have also teased a possible role for Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark / Iron Man in the film.

‘The Cabin In The Woods’ director Drew Goddard is favourite to write and direct the solo movie, which will be preceeded by a likely appearance in next year’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’.

The solo ‘Spider-Man’ film will then follow on 28 July 2017.
