New mo-cap pics from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

New pictures from the set of ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ have been unveiled… and the apes appear to, well, be going ape.

One particularly hardcore snap, courtesy of Empire magazine, finds Caesar and his simian cohorts brandishing automatic weapons.

Andy Serkis, who plays the ape revolution leader, and his ape gang appear in their full motion-capture suits with the shooters, including ‘War Horse’ star Toby Kebbell.

Kebbell plays Koba, an ape who has been experimented on who has a grudge against Caesar.

In some contrast, there’s also a shot of Serkis in a conciliatory gesture with human stars Jason Clarke and Keri Russell.

The hotly-anticipated sequel follows on the from the events of the first movie, with the human population ailing from the spread of a deadly pandemic.

Meanwhile, Caesar, the hyper-intelligent ape abandoned by James Franco’s scientist Will Rodman in the first film, is assembling his new ape world order in an attempt to create the Earth’s new dominant species.

Also starring are Gary Oldman, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Judy Greer as lady ape Cornelia, with ‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves at the helm.

It’s due out in the UK on July 17.
