New SPECTRE Images Tease ‘Biggest Bond Opening Sequence Ever’

We’ve been introduced to the cast; we’ve seen a turtleneck-tastic poster; we’ve seen a moody, enigmatic teaser trailer. It’s fair to say that anticipation for ‘SPECTRE’ is not thin on the ground.

Now, courtesy of Empire, we have some new images of the opening scene from upcoming 24th James Bond movie, which series producer Michael G Wilson boldly declares “the biggest opening sequence we’ve ever done, maybe the biggest sequence we’ve ever done.”

Part of the globe-trotting production’s current stint in Mexico City (having previously shot in Rome, London and the Austrian Alps), the opening follows (as previously reported) a Mexican Day of the Dead parade.

This is surely at least a little evocative of the New Orleans street funerals of ‘Live and Let Die’ - and considering the poster already evoked Roger Moore’s look in his 1973 debut, we have to wonder to what extent Craig will be channeling Moore this time around.

Regarding the scale of the opening, Wilson tells Empire, “The whole vision that Sam Mendes has come up with is very exciting and amazing. We’ve got 1500 extras in Day Of The Dead costumes and make up and we’ve occupied the centre of Mexico City for days.”

Justifying the ‘biggest sequence ever’ claim, Wilson explains, “The only thing that’s come close to it was putting on the carnival in Rio in ‘Moonraker,’ and I think this is a much bigger operation.”

We’re promised exploding buildings, an on-foot chase sequence, rooftop gunfights, and a fight inside a helicopter - resulting in, so we’re told, one of the most spectacular Bond stunts ever. Again, no small claim.

These images also give us our first look (albeit a masked one) at Stephanie Sigman, a recent addition to the cast as Estrella.

With further scenes yet to be shot in Morocco and back in the UK at Pinewood Studios, ‘SPECTRE’ will hit UK cinemas on 23rd October 2015.
