New Star Wars: Episode VII Image Reveals Potential Plot Clue

A new photo from JJ Abrams’ production company has revealed a possible clue for the plot of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’. It shows a robotic hand holding a handwritten note on JJ Abrams-headed notepaper.

Bad Robot tweeted the picture yesterday to celebrate the end of the Force For Change charity fundraising drive which raised over $5m for UNICEF Innovation Labs.

The image shows a note signed by JJ himself, thanking people who donated and congratulating DC Barns, the winner of the campaign sweepstake who won a part in ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’.

The hand holding the paper is the interesting part though: it’s either a droid’s hand, or more likely, a prosthetic hand. Luke Skywalker famously had a prosthetic arm fitted at the end of ‘Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back’, so could we be seeing the aged mechanized limb of the Jedi master?

It certainly seems very possible. Interestingly, the background of the photo shows distinctive grey rocks, much like the ones seen on Skellig Michael, the remote Irish island where the film recently shot some scenes. It was reported at the time that both Mark Hamill and series newcomer Daisy Ridley were present on set for that part of the shoot, and Skellig Michael features some very interesting-looking rock-built huts.

We may be taking a giant assumptive leap here, but could this confirm a plot rumour that’s been kicking around for a while now? Does Daisy Ridley’s character set out on a quest to find Luke Skywalker and does she find him on the planet that Skellig Michael doubles for?

A closer look at the wrist of the robotic arm shows that it bears close resemblance to the pistons glimpsed in Luke’s arm at the end of ‘Empire Strikes Back’.

Of course, it could also just be the arm of a generic robot, of which there are thousands in the ‘Star Wars’ universe.

Other speculation suggests it could even be the hand of Darth Vader, who is famously “more machine than man” after his battle with Obi-Wan Kenobi on Mustafar during ‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’.

We’ve still seen very little of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, but thanks to this amazing fundraising campaign, we’ve seen this hand, a new X-Wing, and a weird little alien creature.

We’ll definitely be seeing more of the much-anticipated film as the release date of 18 December, 2015 slowly gets closer.
