Next Spider-Man May Be Miles Morales & Not Peter Parker

A fresh rumour has suggested that the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s new Spider-Man may be Miles Morales and not the original Spidey, Peter Parker.

The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider said on his Meet The Movie Press podcast that he was “95% sure” that Spider-Man won’t be white.

"This is not set in stone guys," he said, "but I’m telling you right now: Spider-Man is not going to be white."

He might not be white, but what ethnicity could he be? “Spider-Man is going to be most likely black,” Sneider stated. “But there is a chance he could also be Latino. 95% sure not white.”

His co-host Mark Reilly followed up his comments with the obvious question, does this mean Miles Morales will be Spider-Man in the new films?

"I don’t think it’s going to be Peter Parker," he said. "I really feel strongly - Sony has an opportunity to beat Marvel and DC to the punch with sort of a major black comic book movie character.

"Like I mentioned last week, the e-mails that leaked were perceived to be racist in some quarters. I really think that is going to play into things."

Morales debuted as Spider-Man following the death of Peter Parker in the Ultimate Spider-Man series in 2011. The character of Black Hispanic descent was seen as many as a publicity stunt of political correctness at the time, but his character proved a big success - which is why he’s even being discussed in relation to this next Hollywood version of the character.

Sneider’s comments can heard at the 44:30 mark of the podcast, which you can hear here.

Marvel’s re-cast Spider-Man will make his debut in next year’s ‘Captain America: Civil War’ before his debut solo feature in 2017.
