Samuel L Jackson Has Just Two Marvel Films Left

Samuel L Jackson has revealed that he only has two movies left on his Marvel Studios contract, but it doesn’t look like he wants to stop there.

The 66-year-old actor who portrays S.H.I.E.L.D director (now former S.H.I.E.L.D director) Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appeared in the credits of ‘Iron Man’in 2008 and has been a regular feature ever since.

IGN asked the Hollywood legend whether there would ever be a time when he would stop playing the character, to which Jackson said: “Yeah, I’ve only got two more movies in my contract. [Laughs] That might be the end of it, unless I get an extension.”

Jackson is famously game for pretty much any role, and isn’t likely to walk away from a fun, recurring role like Fury for the sake of his own artistic endeavours or acting merit. If he loves what he does, he’ll want to keep doing it - as proven by his desire to play Mace Windu in the ‘Star Wars’ universe once again.

In 2009 Jackson signed a nine-picture deal with Marvel Studios, beginning with ‘Iron Man 2’. His cameo in ‘Iron Man’ didn’t count, much like how Robert Downey Jr’s in ‘The Incredible Hulk’ and Chris Evans’ in ‘Thor: The Dark World’ didn’t count either.

He has appeared in ‘Iron Man 2’, ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’, ‘Avengers Assemble’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. Film five is ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ this Spring, leaving him with two movies.

What will they be? ‘Captain America: Civil War’ seems like an obvious one, but he may not be needed in a film so densely packed with other heroes. ‘Doctor Strange’ probably won’t need him, it won’t be ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ will depend on where most of the action in that film takes place.

'Black Panther' is a possibility - and a film it's easy to assume Jackson would be interested in being part of it - and then there's 'Captain Marvel', which is 50/50. It also makes sense for him to appear in at least one of 'Avengers: Infinity War's two parts, though his two remaining films could also be each of those two films.

Then there’s the new ‘Spider-Man’, announced earlier this week, in which Fury could supply the link, much like how he did in Marvel’s Phase One of films.

Jackson will next be seen in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, out on 23 April.
