Olaf From 'Frozen' Has Been Launched Into Space

Having conquered the earth, Frozen is now headed for galactic domination.

A little homemade Olaf the snowman doll is now aboard the International Space Station, having been brought into orbit by Russian cosmonaut Anton Shkaplerov. And if that isn’t cute enough, Shkaplerov was given the one-armed doll by a little Frozen fanatic at home.

“My youngest daughter is eight years old and she selected that as a talisman,” he told reporters on Friday, before the Soyuz TMA-15M blasted off.

The extreme conditions in space have not gotten to the endlessly optimistic snowman, as you can see in the photo below, posted on Twitter by NASA employee (and currently earth-bound astronaut) Douglas H. Wheelock.

As Space.com points out, Olaf isn’t the first Disney character to have been launched into space: In 2008, Toy Story’s Buzz Lightyear — the obvious choice — rode on NASA’s space shuttle Discovery, and was later donated to the Smithsonian.
