It looks like after the unexpected success of ‘Paddington’ a sequel is now in the works.

Studiocanal has confirmed that it’s in talks with producer David Heyman, the mastermind behind the ‘Harry Potter’ movies, on a follow up.

So far, the movie has coined in over £136 million on a relatively modest budget of £28 million, and received roundly-brilliant reviews on its release last November.

£34 million of the haul was taken in the UK alone.

Meanwhile, it’s since become the highest-grossing family movie released by a non-US-based studio ever.

Studiocanal president Olivier Courson told Variety: “We have to be selective, work with strong brands, top talent, take the time we need.

“[But] obviously, the result on ‘Paddington’ is a strong incentive to us and the partners on the movie to work on a sequel, and a strong incentive for Studiocanal to continue in this area.”

Yep, that’s sequel talk alright.

Director Paul King, who helmed the likes of ‘The Mighty Boosh’, has already said that he’d be up for another movie based on Michael Bond’s books.

“We’d love to do another one, there’s lots of Paddington books and source material,” he told Digital Spy.

“He’s a great character to write for and direct so I’d love to do more. I really hope we can make it happen.”

The movie was originally set to feature Colin Firth voicing the Peruvian bear with a predilection for marmalade sandwiches, but after dropping out, Bond movie star Ben Whishaw took over.

It also starred Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Peter Capaldi and Nicole Kidman.

There was not a little hoo-ha when the BBFC handed down a PG certificate to the film, citing ‘dangerous behaviour, mild threat, mild sex references [and] mild bad language’.

It later downgraded ‘mild sex references’ to ‘innuendo’, referring to a scene in which Bonneville dresses as a tea lady and is chatted up by a library security man.
