Delayed horror sequel ‘Paranormal Activity 5: The Ghost Dimension’ has reportedly begun production - and is set to be released in 3D.

Now, if you’re feeling your stomach churn right away at the thought of shakey-cam found footage photography comin’ at you in full-on stereographic projection, you’re not the only one - but according to Bloody Disgusting, this is indeed the plan for the fifth installment in the low budget, high profit supernatural series.

Perhaps more surprisingly, the Paramount Pictures/Blumhouse Films production is being shot conventionally and will be post-converted into digital 3D - and they won’t have long to get the job done, as the release date has been set for 13 March 2015.

Made independently on a shoestring budget in 2007, ‘Paranormal Activity’ caused a huge stir on its worldwide theatrical release in 2009. It firmly established the found footage approach as a potentially very successful one for horror, spawning not only a franchise but also countless imitations.

For a time, the ‘Paranormal Activity’ series looked to have picked up where ‘Saw’ left off by dominating the Halloween box office for four straight years up to 2012. However, aside from spin-off ‘Paranormal Activity: the Marked Ones’ in January 2014, the series has put the brakes on a little.

Reportedly ‘Paranormal Activity 5: The Ghost Dimension’ centres on a trendy bohemian couple and their young child, who - funnily enough - find that all is not well in their new home.

The 3D aspect would seem to make sense given the ‘dimension’ in the title - but does this imply (as Bloody Disgusting speculate) that rather than simply seeing ghosts make their influence felt in the living world, this film might venture forth to the other side?

Greg Plotkin directs from a screenplay by Jason Pagan and Andrew Stark, whilst Jason Blum and original ‘Paranormal Activity’ director Oren Peli produce.
