Paranormal Activity House Up For Sale

Courageous would-be homeowners in San Diego have an enticing new property on the market for their consideration: the house in which the original ‘Paranormal Activity’ was shot.

Q13 Fox report that for the princely sum of $749,000 (that’s a little shy of £497,000), the Rancho Peñasquitos property can be yours, complete with “a huge patio, pool and basketball hoop.”

Written and directed by Oren Peli, ‘Paranormal Activity’ was shot in 2007 for $15,000 and screened to widespread acclaim at various film festivals that same year. Initially sold to Paramount/Dreamworks with a view to being reshot completely on a bigger budget, the existing film was instead released to cinemas in 2009 in a slightly reworked form.

It wound up grossing over $190 million worldwide, making it one of the most profitable films of all time in terms of return on investment - and inspiring a slew of similar ‘found footage’ horror movies from filmmakers eager to reap similar profits.

The film also launched producer Jason Blum and his company Blumhouse Productions as a major force in mainstream horror, whose hits have included the four subsequent ‘Paranormal Activity’ movies, the ‘Insidious’ and ‘The Purge’ franchises, and ‘Sinister,’ which also has a sequel due this summer.

The next installment in the ‘Paranormal Activity’ series - ‘Paranormal Activity: the Ghost Dimension’ - is due in cinemas on 23 October 2015, having been pushed back from its originally scheduled release date in March.
