Pride - Watch The Exclusive First Trailer

What do you get when you mix Welsh miners and a bunch of gay activists?

The answer is ‘Pride’, a new British comedy-drama charting the real-life meeting in 1984 between a group of gay men and women from London who stood in solidarity alongside the striking miners.

Starring Dominic West, Bill Nighy, Imelda Staunton and Paddy Considine amongst a pretty stellar homegrown cast, the movie - which is directed by stage guru Matthew Warchus - highlights the conflict as well as the unique bond formed by these two diverse groups.

Frustrated by the miners’ union’s refusal to accept their donation, the activists decide to pile into a minibus and travel to a small village in Wales to hand over their donation in person. Initially met with suspicion, the residents soon realize that while from seemingly different worlds, they have the same enemies in Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and the police.

The trailer gives off a kind of fabulous ‘Full Monty’-style vibe, thanks to West’s interesting mullet and Staunton visiting a pretty hardcore gay club.

And did you know West could dance?

Mix in some sassy pensioners and genuine social commentary and you’ve got an intriguing proposition.

Pride hits cinemas on 12 September.
