New on Prime Video UK in October 2022: Movies and TV from 'Catherine Called Birdy' to 'Devil's Hour'

Nicolas Cage plays Nic Cage in the headline arrival on Prime Video UK in October 2022, as meta action-comedy The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent arrives on the streamer just a few months after attracting rave reviews during its cinema run.

When it comes to originals, Lena Dunham directs Game of Thrones star Bella Ramsey in Catherine Called Birdy and Chloë Grace Moretz stars in sci-fi series The Peripheral. Elsewhere, Jessica Raine and Peter Capaldi take the major roles in dark thriller show The Devil's Hour.

New movies coming to Prime Video UK in October 2022

Catherine Called Birdy (7 October)

Bella Ramsey is best known for her role as young noble Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones, but here steps up to play the title character in this medieval comedy, directed by Lena Dunham.

Andrew Scott and Billie Piper play her parents, who are a lord and lady relying on young Catherine's marriage to a wealthy man to solve their financial problems. Catherine, perhaps unsurprisingly, is not quite so keen to allow herself to be married off to the richest suitor.

Argentina, 1985 (21 October)

This Argentinian courtroom drama is based on the true story of the young legal team who sought to prosecute the country's military junta in the 1980s. It screened recently at the Venice Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Lion top prize, as well as for Best Actor and Best Actress.

After Ever Happy (23 October)

The fourth entry in the After franchise based on Anna Todd's novels sees Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin reprise their roles as the central couple who, this time around, discover some shocking family secrets and deal with the aftermath.

Run Sweetheart Run (28 October)

Acquired by Prime Video from Blumhouse, writer-director Shana Faste's thriller delves into the dark side of blind dating. Ella Balinska plays a single mum who bites the bullet and accepts an invitation for a blind date with a charming fella played by Pilou Asbæk. But inevitably, he turns out to be a sinister, violent bloke from whom she must find a way to escape through the streets of Los Angeles.

This documentary special explores the legacy of James Bond music, from those iconic theme tunes to the scores that have kept Ian Fleming's spy rattling through 60 years of big screen adventures.

The Sound of 007: LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall (5 October)

The Sound of 007: LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall is an exclusive recording of the official charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall on 4 October. Guest vocalists including Dame Shirley Bassey, Garbage, Lulu and Chrissie Hynde will join a line up curated by five-time Bond composer David Arnold. Hans Zimmer, will also appear along with Becky Hill, Celeste, Ella Eyre, Jamie Cullum, John Grant and Paloma Faith accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra conducted by Nicholas Dodd.

High School S1 (14 October via Freevee)

Based on the memoir of the same name by Canadian pop duo Tegan and Sara, High School follows the travails of a pair of teenage twins working to figure out their own identities — separately and together. How I Met Your Mother and MCU star Cobie Smulders is among the cast.

Icons Unearthed: Star Wars (21 October via Freevee)

This series delves into the legacy of the Star Wars mega-franchise and features the first ever on-camera interview with Marcia Lucas — wife of Star Wars creator George. Naturally, other famous faces from the galaxy far, far away will also make appearances.

Modern Love Tokyo S1 (21 October)

This seven-part anthology series, adapted from a New York Times column, explores different flavours and facets of romance — now against the backdrop of Japan's capital city. One of the seven episodes will be animated.

Westworld creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy are among the executive producers for this head-spinning sci-fi series, based on a 2014 novel by William Gibson. The show stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a VR gamer who finds herself transported from the USA into a futuristic version of London, only to realise this is totally real and not virtual at all. This leaves Moretz's character to work out why the link between these two worlds has been opened, and whether it might spell danger for her.

The Devil's Hour S1 (28 October)

Created by Tom Moran and executive produced by former Doctor Who and Sherlock showrunner Steven Moffat, this dark British series looks set to chill the blood. Jessica Raine plays a woman who wakes to terrifying visions every night at precisely 3.33am — known as the devil's hour. She soon becomes connected to a series of murders and to a reclusive character played by Peter Capaldi, who is being hunted by Starstruck actor Nikesh Patel's police officer.

UNINTERRUPTED’s Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers S3 (31 October via Freevee)

This series continues to follow the unique approach of a successful high school basketball team, with the young players now plying their trade in sold-out arenas.
