Pussy Galore To Reunite With James Bond In New Book

James Bond and Pussy Galore are to be reunited in the latest novel based on Ian Fleming’s creation.

Anthony Horowitz’s novel, called Trigger Mortis, teams up 007 with one of the most famous Bond girls of all time.

The writer revealed details of the story which will begin in 1957 two weeks after the end of Fleming’s original novel Goldfinger.

As well as Ms Galore, famously played in the film version by Honor Blackman, the story will also see the secret agent rub shoulders with another Bond girl - Jeopardy Lane - and a sadistic Korean villain called Jai Seung Sin.

The book is based in part on an original Fleming idea which was written for a television show that was never made.

Horowitz said: “It was always my intention to go back to the true Bond, which is to say, the Bond that Fleming created and it was a fantastic bonus having some original, unseen material from the master to launch my story.

"I was so glad that I was allowed to set the book two weeks after my favourite Bond novel, Goldfinger, and I’m delighted that Pussy Galore is back.

"It was great fun revisiting the most famous Bond Girl of all - although she is by no means the only dangerous lady in Trigger Mortis. I hope fans enjoy it. My aim was to make this the most authentic James Bond novel anyone could have written.”

The book was commissioned by Fleming’s estate and his niece Lucy described it as “a James Bond book with a nail-biting adventure that could have come from Ian’s own typewriter”.

Horowitz, whose screenwriting career includes Midsomer Murders and Foyle’s War, is no stranger to thriller writing and has sold more than 19 million copies of his Alex Rider series about a teenage spy. He has recently penned a new adventure for the master detective Sherlock Holmes.

He follows in the footsteps of authors including Kingsley Amis, William Boyd and Sebastian Faulks who have written new Bond books since Fleming’s death in 1964.

Boyd’s book, Solo, was published in 2013 and featured Bond embroiled in a civil war in 1969 Africa.

Ajay Chowdhury, from the James Bond International Fan Club, said the news was “a gift” for fans of 007.

He said: “Bond fans will be excited for a number of reasons. Firstly, the title is evocative of the clever-yet-deadly Fleming play-on-words.

"Secondly, with its use of previous Fleming notes and Bond girl Pussy Galore - a tough gangster who Bond persuades to the side of the angels in Goldfinger (1959) - the novel promises to be rich in period detail and action and stay true to the original spirit of the classic novels.”

The book will be published on September 8.
