  • Back before they could generate incredibly realistic primates via motion capture computer graphs, movies with humanistic monkeys required masks and makeup. And while the original 'Planet of the Apes' often looked a bit hokey, Baker’s work on Hugh Hudson’s 'Greystoke' — which used hand-punched hair on a mask worn by actors — was remarkably well-done. The full-body costume is covered in actual yak fur, while the little baby skeleton was made of metal, fiberglass and acrylic.

    Back before they could generate incredibly realistic primates via motion capture computer graphs, movies with humanistic monkeys required masks and makeup. And while the original 'Planet of the Apes' often looked a bit hokey, Baker’s work on Hugh Hudson’s 'Greystoke' — which used hand-punched hair on a mask worn by actors — was remarkably well-done. The full-body costume is covered in actual yak fur, while the little baby skeleton was made of metal, fiberglass and acrylic.

Director John Landis charged Baker with creating the molds for the zombie’s faces and hands, which he created out of a mix of tests he made on actors earlier in his career, including 1977’s sci-fi horror flick 'The Incredible Melting Man.'
