Robert Downey Jr Hints At More Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. has teased his future as Iron Man in Marvel’s cinematic universe.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the 49-year-old said: ”I’m sure we’ll ride that thing. You’ve got to surf that all the way in to shore.”

RDJ is currently contracted for next year’s ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and a third ‘Avengers’ movie further down the line. After the huge, $1 billion-breaking success of ‘Iron Man 3’ last year however, Marvel must surely be trying to coax at least one more performance out of the star.

His surfing metaphor could easily mean he intends to see out his contract or it could be hinting at an extension, and Downey Jr. absolutely knew it could be interpreted both ways, the big tease.

"I think I was at the forefront of something that was coming into being," he says of the franchise. "And I think it has carried me as much as I have informed it. That’s the healthy way to look at it. It’s so easy to become inflated by the successes, but what they really are long, strong trends. It’s just another wave."

Downey Jr first played ‘Iron Man’ in 2008, kick-starting six successful years (so-far) for Marvel Studios. The actor is arguably the biggest on the planet and has been at the centre of the Marvel world ever since with appearances in ‘Iron Man 2’ ‘Iron Man 3’ and ‘Avengers Assemble’ as well as a cameo in ‘The Incredible Hulk’.

He will next be seen fighting alongside Chris Evans’ Captain America, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ when that’s released on April 24, 2015.
