Robin Williams Memorials Pop Up From Coast to Coast

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram may be the easiest place to share memories of the late Robin Williams — all three are flooded with tributes — but many real-life spots associated with the comedian have become makeshift shrines to him as well.

On Monday evening, following the news that the 63-year-old star had died from an apparent suicide, fans flocked to several of the locations associated with the star, including his home, his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Good Will Hunting bench in Boston. Other tributes popped up outside comedy clubs, in bars, and beyond…

Good Will Hunting Bench: While filming his Academy Award-winning role in the film, Williams shared an unforgettable scene with Matt Damon on a bench in the Boston Public Garden in which his character schooled his young patient on life, love, and loss and memorably told him, “You know what occurred to me? You’re just a kid, and you don’t have the faintest idea of what you’re talking about.” That bench also became a place for fans to reflect and someone wrote some of the film’s most memorable lines in chalk on the ground.

Good Will Hunting Bar: Even though Williams never entered the L Street Tavern, which is at 658 East 8th Street in South Boston, in the movie, he befriended the people there during filming and went to a cast party there. Last night, customers stopped by the venue, which has a Good Will Hunting sign hanging outside, to pay tribute to the late star, and the owners issued this statement: “He was always kind and charitable to those he met during Good Will Hunting. He certainly put us on the map, as we have visitors all over the world to see the little corner tavern where they filmed the Academy Award winning film. He will be missed.”

Mrs. Doubtfire House: Many moviegoers who remembered Williams dressing up as a woman for a housekeeper job in the 1993 film swung by the San Francisco house which served as the exterior of the Hillard home. Flowers, letters, and candles were placed on the brick stairs of the sprawling Victorian at as 2640 Steiner Street in the Pacific Heights neighborhood.

Mork & Mindy House: Williams was even better known for his breakout role on the late ’70s/early ’80s TV series with Pam Dawber. The Boulder, Colorado, Queen Anne style house that served as Mork’s earthly home attracted mourners as well. They hung signs outside 1619 Pine Street (one read “Nanu Nanu”) or just stood nearby in quiet remembrance.

Williams’s House in Tiburon, California: Dozens of people showed up outside the Spanish-style home where the actor was pronounced dead. They left bouquets of flowers by the front gates or just stood across the street in silence. There were notes as well, including one on a pink hear that said, “Robin, You will be missed. XOXO.”

His Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame: Williams’s star, which can be found at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard, also drew a crowd. There were many bouquets as well as candles.
