Roger Deakins Will Shoot Blade Runner Sequel

Cinematographer Roger Deakins has signed up to shoot the sequel to ‘Blade Runner’.

According to reports, Denis Villeneuve, the Canadian director who helmed ‘Prisoners’, will assume control of the sci-fi sequel with the acclaimed DoP at his side.

Deakins will be teaming up with Villeneuve for what will be a third time in what’s billed as a hugely anticipated follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic.

The film’s currently not got an official title (or a synopsis or release date, for that matter), with ‘Bladerunner 2′ noted as its working title at present.

Working alongside Villeneuve are Hampton Fancher (the original scribe of the ‘80s movie) and Ryan Green on writing duties. The narrative is said to carry on chronologically from the original and takes place several decades after the first’s thrilling conclusion.

Significantly, Harrison Ford is apparently on board for the project and there’s rumoured talk that Ryan Gosling is set to co-star.

If there’s one thing you can count on with Deakins it’s that the movies he works on look consistently gorgeous. It’s perhaps unjust that, regardless of his countless Oscar nominations, he’s yet to win one.

Having worked on recent titles such as ‘Skyfall’ and ‘True Grit’, Deakins is renowned for his work and has also contributed to classics such as ‘No Country for Old Men’ and ‘The Shawshank Redemption’.

The news of Ford, possibly Gosling, Deakins and Villeneuve combining on such an important sequel is somewhat reassuring. Each has their own set of credentials, so with Ridley Scott as one of its producers, there a lot to look forward to when it does finally see the light of day.
