BBC Worldwide Pre-Sells ‘The Honorable Woman’ to HBO Nordic

PARIS– BBC Worldwide has pre-sold Hugo Blick’s “The Honorable Woman,” the politically-engaged series toplining Maggie Gyllenhaal, to HBO Nordic, ahead of the skein’s word premiere at MipTV on April 7.

The drama, which marks Gyllenhaal’s first TV role, was produced by Drama Republic and Eight Rooks for the BBC. The U.S. channel Sundance TV co-produced.

Gyllenhaal will be attending the premiere screening of the show at MipTV in Cannes, along with co-star Andrew Buchan, exec producer Greg Brenman (Ripper Street) and Blick, the BAFTA-winning writer/director of “The Shadow Line.” The unspooling will be followed by a Q&A.

“The Honorable Woman” turns on Nessa Stein, a young woman who witnessed the assassination of her father by the Palestinian Liberation Organization, and stands at the forefront of the Middle East peace process. But after awarding a lucrative contract to a Palestinian businessman, who is later found dead, she finds herself under the close scrutiny of Whitehall and the Secret Intelligence Service.

“‘The Honourable Woman’ exemplifies the kind of high calibre production that BBC Worldwide has built a reputation for offering. To have already concluded a pre-sale shows how confident the market is in this hugely compelling drama,” said Richard Hornsby-Smith,director of Nordics for BBC Worldwide.

BBC Worldwide’s MIPTV drama slate also includes the second season of David S. Goyer’s “Da Vinci’s Demons.”
