Cruise and Duvall head to the derby

Hollywood pair watch United and City thrash it out in Manchester

Tom Cruise and Robert Duvall made a surprise appearance at yesterday's derby match between Manchester United and Manchester City.

The pair, who are promoting the release of new actioner 'Jack Reacher', arrived in Manchester by helicopter before heading to the Etihad stadium, home of Manchester City.

“This is the first game that I've seen in England,” he told Sky Sports. “I've been following it since the eighties so I'm just excited that I'm able to be here.”

He also added that he's been chatting to his friend David Beckham about attending the hotly-contested fixture.

“He wishes he was here. I got an email from him, he's jealous that I'm here,” he said.

Duvall was less clued up about the rules of football, chipping in: “Will there be a shootout today? No. If it's a tie? No.”

There was indeed no shootout, with United winning 3-2 in a nail-biting match.

Cruise has been in the UK for some weeks now, filming his latest 'All You Need Is Kill' in Hertfordshire and London.

He recently brought central London to a standstill filming scenes for the sci-fi thriller, landing a Navy helicopter in Trafalgar Square, and shutting off The Strand and Charing Cross Road.
