Edgar Wright talks new comic adaptation Ant-Man

'Shaun of the Dead' director Edgar Wright has been talking up his plans for forthcoming Marvel Comics adaptation 'Ant-Man'.

Speaking to IGN, he said: “It’s a way of doing a superhero film within another genre. I wanted to tell an origin tale in a slightly different way. It’s part of the Marvel cinematic universe, but it also feels like its own piece.”

The project has been planned for some time, but Wright says he was keen to finish his 'Blood and Ice Cream' trilogy with Simon Pegg first, comprising 'Shaun of the Dead', 'Hot Fuzz' and the forthcoming 'The World's End'.

“I’ve been collaborating with (Marvel Studios boss) Kevin Feige during the whole of that cycle. Part of it is because I wanted to make two other movies first. I wanted to make 'World’s End'.

“Me and Simon [Pegg] were very keen to make it and it felt like it was unfinished business and we wanted to wrap up the trilogy. The script came together really fast. Well not really fast, but it came together at a certain point where it was like ‘I really want to do this next'.

“But to be honest, the later I do it, it feels like I could learn more, especially about special effects. It’s a big effects movie, so I’m pleased to go into it having done 'Scott Pilgrim' and 'The World’s End' because you’re always learning more about that side.”

The 'Ant-Man' script is reportedly finished, having been written by Wright and frequent collaborator Joe Cornish.

It's thought that it will include both characters Henry Pym, the first Ant-Man, and then flash-forward in time to Scott Lang, the second man to take on the insect alter-ego.

Pym is a biophysicist who discovers a chemical substance which allows him to shrink in size. Lang then stole Pym's suit, but after reforming from a life of crime, became a member of The Avengers and an affiliate of the Fantastic Four.

The film is due in November, 2015.

Meanwhile, 'The World's End' is due out in the summer, starring Pegg, Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan and Martin Freeman as friends on a nostalgic pub crawl who discover the world is about to end.
