Final Hunger Games film to be split into two

'Mockingjay' story will be told over two films

The makers of the 'Hunger Games' films are to split the final book 'Mockingjay' into two parts, it has been confirmed.

Producer Lionsgate has revealed that the first part will be released on November 21, 2014, while fans will have to wait until November 20, 2015, for the second instalment.

It follows the relatively recent Hollywood trend of splitting the final parts of film franchises into two, after the likes of the Harry Potter and 'Twilight' series secured huge profits by doing the same.

It's also thought that the final part in Suzanne Collins' trilogy of novels contains too much plot to squeeze into a single film.

Meanwhile, 'Catching Fire', the second in the series, will start filming soon, after it was confirmed that Philip Seymour Hoffman will play Plutarch Heavensbee, the head gamemaker for the 75th Hunger Games.

It's due out on November 22, 2013.
