With less than six months until 'The Battle of Five Armies' is due out in cinemas people have been getting ants in their pants in anticipation of the trailer for the third 'Hobbit' film. Up until now a trailer release date was only rumoured or speculated.

But now it seems we may have some sort of solid indication as to when we can expect to see a trailer for Peter Jackson's eagerly awaited final film. This is because the director himself has reportedly given his stamp of approval to a trailer for the film.

Now whilst this is undoubtedly great news, it is news that has come from an anonymous first time source who tipped off Hobbit fan-website This source could be entirely accurate but with no proof to back up their claim and no past-record of being right or truthful trusting what they're saying is more of a leap of faith than a guarantee.

But providing Jackson has indeed given the go-ahead for a trailer we won't be getting it immediately, the trailer still needs to be rated and then distributed. Although I image that process wont' take too long as Warner Brothers will be eager to begin their marketing campaign for the film.

If I had to guess when it will be released based on this new information I'd have to stick with the previous guestimate from TORn with July 20th still looking like as good a best as any for when we'll finally see the first footage to the conclusion of the trilogy.

Daniel Wood is a long-time 'Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit' fan after his dad read him both books as bedtime stories as a child. Of course back then he didn't understand a word he was hearing, so he's grateful they made films. Follow Daniel Wood on Twitter .
