The latest Pixar movie 'The Good Dinosaur' could have run into problems, with reports emerging that its director Bob Peterson has been removed from the project.

News blog Blue Sky Disney is reporting that Pixar bigwig John Lasseter – the studio's chief creative officer and director of 'Toy Story' and 'Toy Story 2' – has stepped in to replace both Peterson, who co-directed 'Up', and the film's producer John Walker.

The report goes on to say that the studio is still planning to make its currently slated release date of May 30, 2014.

This is far from the first time that a radical shift in senior staff has threatened to derail a Pixar production... in fact, it's becoming something of a regularity.

Director Brenda Chapman was replaced on 'Brave' and before that Lasseter himself stepped in to replace Brad Lewis as the helmsman of 'Cars 2'.

Before that 'Ratatouille' had faced similar turbulence, with Brad Bird being brought in to replace the film's original director Jan Pinkava half way through production.

It's now thought that Peter Sohn, who is listed as the film's co-director, may take over the reigns.

The film is among a number of productions currently on the Pixar slate.

It tells the story of a modern world where dinosaurs never went extinct and features voice turns from Lucas Neff, Neil Patrick Harris, Bill Hader, Judy Greer, John Lithgow and Frances McDormand.
