Hollywood film premiere descends into riot

Rave documentary 'Electric Daisy Carnival Experience' saw its premiere ruined when huge crowds turned up at the Grauman's Chinese Theater for the event.

Following a twitter announcement by DJ Kaskade, who has over 90,000 followers, fans turned up to an impromptu street party. The screening itself was invite-only and things turned ugly when people were turned away at the door.

Police quickly arrived on the scene, and even though the premiere itself still went ahead, only 300 of the 650 invited guests could make it. The LAPD told most of those turning up on the red carpet that the screening was cancelled. As it happened, the real drama was unfolding outside on the streets of Hollywood Boulevard.

Kaskade repeatedly tried to tweet to his followers to “chill” and leave once the LAPD made it clear that his planned performance would not be happening. Cinema staff and producers from the film also tried via megaphone to tell the swelling crowds to disperse, but the police eventually had to take direct action.

Nearly 200 police officers were on the scene, at times firing beanbags into the crowd, with the fracas continuing for six hours.

Three people were arrested including one for assaulting an officer. Police investigations are ongoing over the incident.

Afterwards DJ Kaskade, real name Ryan Raddon, issued the following announcement:

"I'm incredibly disappointed that last night ended the way it did. It's unfortunate that a few disrespectful people turned what was supposed to be a celebration of music into a regrettable event."
