Hugh Jackman: Heath Ledger would have been a good Wolverine (exclusive)

Hugh Jackman, the Aussie actor who has played Wolverine in seven 'X-Men’ films, says Heath Ledger would have made a great replacement in the role in our exclusive ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past' interview. Watch it above.

“Originally, when I played it [first], when he was alive God rest his sole, I thought Heath Ledger could be a good young version of [Wolverine],” explained Jackman.

Heath Ledger, a fellow Aussie, died from an accidental overdose in 2008 aged 28. One of his final roles was in a comic book film, memorably playing the Joker in Chris Nolan's ‘The Dark Knight’, for which he would win a posthumous Best Supporting Oscar for.

Having played the role so many times, Jackman admits he’s nervous about seeing someone else donning the titanium claws
 
“It would be a little weird [seeing someone else as Wolverine],” said Jackman, “I know it’s going to happen.”

Wolverine is set to return in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ on 22 May, but 20th Century Fox has recently confirmed that the invincible hero will be getting another spin-off film, likely shooting after 2016’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’.
