James Cameron’s Avatar universe to be expanded with four novels

Yahoo UK Movies News

James Cameron has continued to talk up the expansion of his ‘Avatar’ universe in lieu of any films actually being made.

Last time we heard, Cameron is planning three sequels to the biggest movie of all time, and now he has announced there will be four novels as well.

Writing the books is sci-fi author Steven Charles Gould, whose first novel ‘Jumper’ was adapted into a film in 2008.

Speaking about his decision to hire Gould in a press release, Cameron said: “Steven Gould is one of the shining lights in contemporary science fiction, and I’ve long admired the worlds and characters he’s created in his books and stories.

“We’re very fortunate to have Steven bring his formidable talents to the ‘Avatar’ universe.  He is already working closely with me and the screenwriters to flesh out the expanding world of ‘Avatar’.”

Those screenwriters are ‘War of the Worlds’ Josh Friedman, ‘Savages’ Shane Salerno and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ pair Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who are all working with Cameron on the trilogy of follow-ups.

‘Avatar’s 2, 3 and 4 are aiming to be released in December 2016, December 2017 and, you guessed it, December 2018.
